What you need
- A running n8n server
- An email account you can connect, such as Gmail
- An AI model, either a cloud key or local Ollama
Add a Schedule Trigger
Create a workflow and add a Schedule Trigger, set to run at a time such as 8:00 each morning. Check that your n8n timezone is correct, or it will run at the wrong hour.
Fetch yesterday's emails
Add a Gmail node set to get many messages, then filter it to the last 24 hours. Gmail's search syntax works in the filter. Start with a low limit such as 30 while you test.

Add an Aggregate node so that all messages reach the AI together. Without this, it would run once per email and produce many separate summaries. Include only the fields you need, such as sender, subject and snippet.
Ask AI for the summary
Add a Basic LLM Chain node with your chat model, and use a clear prompt. The expression below passes the combined data, and the exact field name depends on your Aggregate settings, so check its output.
Summarise these emails for a busy manager. Group them as: Urgent, Needs a reply, For information. For each one, give the sender and one short line. Do not invent any details. If there are none, say so. Emails: {{ JSON.stringify($json.data) }}Send it to yourself and test
Add a Send Email or chat node, using the AI output as the message body. Compare the summaries with your real inbox for a few days before relying on them.
This sends email content to your AI provider. For sensitive mailboxes, use a local model and keep the workflow read-only.
